Lake Point Tower is a 70-story, 752-unit luxury residential condominium tower rising 645 feet tall. It was completed in 1968 and at that time it was the tallest apartment building as well as the first all electric high rise residential building in the world. Designers Schipporeit and Henrich who were students of renown Ludwig Mies van de Rohe based their drawings of the building on earlier sketches of their teacher and also pioneered the concept “Park in the City” where Lake Point Tower residents can enjoy 2.5-acre park with a duck pond and swimming pool three stories above ground. The building’s plan is composed of three equal prongs extending from a central triangular core which houses elevators and stairwells. The core absorbs horizontal forces allowing for smaller floor perimeter interior columns only needing to bear vertical loads.
Lake Point Tower has been home to celebrities like Sammy Sosa, Alice Cooper, Kurt Russell, Scottie Pippen, Goldie Hawn, Rich (Goose) Gossage, and many more.
